"Too Young Not to Understand..." (from RFK '68 to Obama '08)

I have to admit, i was one of those who literally laughed when after his spectacular 2004 convention speech people started saying Barack Obama might one day be president. Yeah, right. Just like Harold Ford's great speech led to his presidency. And Jesse Jackson's, etc, etc. Give me a break: Americans like to listen to brilliant Black men give great speeches, but voting for a Black president? Gimme a break...

And then something VERY strange happened. As Obama used the spotlight to speak around the nation:
"His words were like lightnin' in the summer air."

And they started a fire. People came and listened. They came and listened by the thousands.
Are you kidding me? Thousands of people, including lots of young people, to hear an hour-long political speech?!?!!?

To me, the best part is that it was a revolution led by the young people who were the first to understand Obama's importance. This happened before, in 1968. And the community organizing tactics Cesar Chavez & Delores Huerta used to help Bobby Kennedy win California will be the tactics that put Obama in the White House.

As Peter Case asked:
Who will live to see the when day love connects us?

We will, if we make it to Tuesday.
