Most of you never heard of Ralph Plaisted. A few from Minnesota may recall the name. But back in 1968 -- that amazing, horrible, wonderful year -- Ralph Plaisted did something nobody had ever done before, although it took many more years before anyone realized it.
Ralph Plaisted and his friends became the first human beings to reach the North Pole over the ocean surface, traveling by snowmobile across the ice from Ellesmere Island in northern Canada for 42 days to reach the axis of the earth.
