I abhor violence and threats of violence. I condemn any and all Bernie Sanders supporters or delegates who engaged in violence or threats of violence in last weekend’s Nevada Democratic convention. I accept the will of the voters who have given Hillary Clinton an unassailable lead in the Democratic primaries and caucuses. She won by pulling together diverse support across the Democratic party.

That said, enough is enough.

The nasty insults of Bernie Sanders, who presently fighting for the people of Puerto Rico against the depredations of hedge funds and vulture funds, need to stop. The attacks on his supporters who had nothing to do with the disorder in Nevada need to stop. We aren’t going away.

The northern half of the Great Barrier reef is DEAD and I have been too choked up to write about it. A wave of mass extinctions is going to follow if we don’t stop warming and acidifying the oceans. Millions of people who have been displaced by climate change and war in the middle east are trying to find a home. And right here in America people are dying because Medicaid hasn’t been expanded where they live.  We need to be doing something about these problems that affect people’s lives.

Fortunately, most Democratic voters don’t read diaries on Dailykos and don’t give a damn about the crap that goes on here. But if this place in any kind of indicator of what’s to come in the Democratic party, I weep for us. If the 60% (or whatever) that supports Hillary turns on the 40% that supports Bernie it’s going to end up like 1968.

When the Democratic party turned on the young people who righteously demonstrated against the Viet Nam war, it wrecked the party and ultimately led to the decline of unions and the middle class. Young people frequently do stupid things but if Democratic elders turn on young Bernie Sanders supporters all the demographic advantages the Democratic party has now will erode. Just like it did in 1968. A party that drives off young people has a bleak future.

We need to work together positively to solve problems and elect progressive Democrats. The infighting needs to stop now.
